E-Recycling

Overview
C2SDK runs and depends heavily on people donating electronics for them to refurbish and redistribute to those in need. To support C2SDK, YCC has hosted our very own e-recycling events over the past two years!  During these events, people from around the community can bring their old, unused electronics for donation. YCC would then transport these donations to C2SDK for refurbishment, or for the electronics to be properly recycled.

During these events, YCC members help with the collection process, including moving and counting the number of electronics, communicating with the donator what they need to do, and helping with the donation receipt process. YCC members can also earn a capped amount of hours by donating electronics themselves.

Why is e-recycling important?
  • E-waste represents 70% of overall toxic waste
  • 20-50 million tons of e-waste are disposed of every year
  • Americans dump over $60 million worth of precious metals in the form of phones and other electronics - recycling these devices to the best of our abilities can save lots of money
  • E-waste is toxic, as hazardous materials spill from dumped electronics, contaminating groundwater and endangering the lives of millions
  • Only around 12-15% of e-waste is recycled
  • See the video to the right created by the Scripps Ranch event organizer to learn more about the dangers of e-waste
