HOUSE OF CHINA
Situated in Balboa Park, the House of China (HoC) is one of the many ethnic organizations in San Diego County that focus on promoting culture––one way being hosting cultural festivals throughout the year. YCC members volunteer at the House of China booth at each festival, selling items such as dumplings, egg rolls, and boba. Festivals include December Nights, Mid-Autumn/Moon Festival, Ethnic Food Fair, and Chinese New Year.

SALVATION ARMY
Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Salvation Army puts on a tradition at city hall and serves food to the homeless. YCC members sign up as a group and volunteer for the Salvation Army, performing various tasks like drink and food distribution and set-up and clean-up. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have unfortunately not been able to volunteer during the past couple of years. However, we look forward to working with them again in the future! |

FUNDRAISERS
In order to fulfill our mission statement and goal in helping students in China, YCC hosts fundraising events throughout the year. The biggest way YCC carries out its financial requirement is through the HuaXia Chinese New Year Festival, in which volunteers from the club take a booth at the annual festival hosted by San Diego HuaXia Chinese School to sell various items such as noddles, boba, and fortune wheel prizes. |

COLLEGE CONFERENCE
As another way to fundraise, Youth Care Club also hosts an annual College Conference each summer, where graduating seniors from all over San Diego are invited to speak in front of an audience about their high school career. Each student comes from a diverse background of activities, and is headed toward various different colleges, allowing students with all experiences to learn from their elders. At the event, YCC also hosts a book drive where we collect SAT, ACT, and AP prep books from donators and sell them at low prices. Overall, the event acts not only as a fundraising opportunity for the organization, but also a learning experience for all, including non-YCC members who choose to attend. |

ACCEF EVENTS
As part of our gratitude to our partnership with ACCEF, YCC members also help out with their annual events, including the annual showcases that are put on every Moon Festival and Chinese New Year. Volunteers dress up in traditional and formal attire, hand out programs, flowers, and act as escorts for guests. |

TUTORING CAMP
The biggest volunteer event that YCC hosts every year is a trip to China! At the end of every summer, YCC members have the opportunity to travel back to the Chinese cities of Guangxi and Jiangxi to work with students who live there. For two weeks, those who sign up will get to experience the culture, education, and lifestyle of the children in rural parts of China, while also volunteering by teaching English and American culture to the students there. Due to the pandemic in recent years, YCC has not been able to host the trip in person. However, volunteers still teach students in Guangxi and Jiangxi via Zoom every summer. |
