What is Black Mountain Habitat Restoration?
The Black Mountain restoration site was once used for farming and cattle ranching in the 19th and 20th centuries. This however caused extreme degraded land filled with invasive grasses and flowers. Our goal is to restore the site back to what it once was, and we plant and care for dozens of native plants each year in order to restore it to the natural chaparral it originally was. Unique native species like jackrabbits, cactus wrens, native bees, and many others are given more habitat by our site and hard work.
Event Schedule:
Join us and Friends of Los Penasquitos Canyon Reserve biweekly on Sundays! Times are 3-5 pm in the summer and 2-4 pm in the winter. Tasks will change depending on the time of year, rotating between planting weeding, and watering. No experience is required, and all materials are provided. Check the Google Classroom for announcement and the sign up sheets. We hope to see you there!
